One of my favorite parts of business ownership is that my focus can ebb and flow as my energy ebbs and flows. I learned that quickly in 2024, when my time and energy was being pulled in directions away from Voices Who Will. Don’t get me wrong, the business carried on with incredible new clients, speaking opportunities, and more - but things were different for just a little bit.
But even as I say my time and energy was being pulled away from this, the reality is that this business - the continuation of it - will always be intertwined, intersected with the areas that I did put energy into, for better or for worse. So what better way to kick off 2025 than diving into the topics that pulled my energy from my business in 2024 - and using them to fuel energy into my business in 2025? Because again, everything we do - everything you do - is a balancing act that leads you further down the road of building a life you love.
Here are some topics we’ll explore together this year.
Health, wellness and how it affects your performance
Last year, I traveled the globe and it was incredible. My body took me places to work with speakers, to try new foods, to drink new drinks and (my personal favorite) to celebrate people around me. We all know that two things can be true - because in the midst of enjoying all that travel has to offer, I realized my trips to the gym decreased, I prioritized quick meals instead of nutritious ones, and my sleep had a tough time adjusting to timezones. All of that affected the energy I was able to bring to my job, my clients and this business. So join me as we get back to movement, back to a balanced diet, try some new wellness tactics along the way, and discuss how it can help us achieve optimal performance in our careers and yes, on the stage.
Women voices in politics
My politics are out there - I have a degree in political science from a liberal arts college and if you look at my LinkedIn, you’ll see that I once worked for a democratic senator. So I’m not trying to hide that, nor push it on folks because this conversation is far from left vs. right. Instead, what we continue to see in politics - and especially in the 2024 presidential election - is women's style of speaking being called into question by constituents, by the media, by other politicians - and in turn, their fit for office being called into question as well. I grew passionate about this in 2016, and to see it replay in 2024 lit a fire in my belly that I can’t quite ignore anymore. So we’ll dive into this conversation, what it means for us, and what we can do about it.
The success of women around me
For the first five years of my business, I NEVER did client testimonials on social media because most of the clients I had were competing against each other (for Miss Minnesota) and it was a sensitive dynamic. I also never wanted to claim a clients’ journey as my own because the reality is, I’m a small, small part of it. So, I always kept who I worked with private out of respect for my clients. BUT… I also have always envisioned creating a community that can learn from one another, learn from different audiences, learn from different experiences, learn from successes and failures. So we are going to start highlighting the success of non-clients, current clients and yes, some past clients! Because I’m stinkin’ proud of them - OKAY?!
Back to the basics of public speaking
Underpinning all of those topics are the basics of what it takes to share your voice confidently, authentically, and uniquely. I’ve recently seen a lot of public speaking coaches share really complex outlines or frameworks or tips that make this journey harder than it needs to be. So join me as we debunk some of the crazy ways that exist out there, and create a journey that makes sense for you. Because everyone’s speaking journey is different, and that’s what I love about all of this.
TLDR; I’m excited to explore some really cool stuff with you this year. Let me know what you’re most excited about below, and as always, thanks for being here. <3
